The winners of The Poetry of Shadows that I curated are now live!
Find out more on All About Photo

Being asked to jury "The Poetry of Shadows" was a difficult but fascinating experience. Thank you for allowing me to discover so many incredible images; I was captivated by the stories you had to tell, your unique point of view and the intensity of your images. Mysterious, magical, intense, timeless, sometimes nostalgic... mastering the shadows in photography is an art in itself. It is a story in its own right, a unique form of expression. Thank you to everyone who submitted their work for showcasing the significance and beauty of photography.

First place winner: Sylvia de Swaan

Second place winners:

AAP Magazine#4: Shapes

Submit your work: HERE

Send me your best work! Deadline September 30, 2018

Our fourth printed issue of AAP Magazine will feature the best projects showcasing the theme "Shapes". A shape is the form of an object or its external boundary, outline, or external surface. Look around you, observe all the points, lines, patterns or silhouettes that surround us. Square or circle, triangle or hexagon, rectangle or oval, the choice is yours!
Reveal us the elements that abstract into light, texture, shape and shadow.

The rhythm of surfaces, lines, and values is for me the essence of photography; composition should be a constant of preoccupation... an organic coordination of visual elements.
Henri Cartier-Bresson

Send us your images - series preferably- both where shapes may not just influence the pictures, but where it may also be the subject solely.
Whether in portrait, landscape, nude, street or any other form of photography - classic or experimental: we're open to all genres and we want to discover the best and most interesting photography from all over the world.

Winners will receive $1,000in cash awards, their winning image(s) or full portfolio published in AAP Magazine#4, extensive press coverage and global recognition.

All winners will have their work published in the fourth printed issue of AAP Magazine, a free copy of the magazine and their portfolio showcased in the Winners Gallery of www.all-about-photo.com.

AAP Magazine#3: Travels

Our third printed issue of AAP Magazine will feature the best projects showcasing the theme Travels. It's summertime, show us your vacation snapshots, reflect on past adventures or some sense of travel that's deeper than the usual kind. You know, not just travel - inner travel.

We are looking for your travel photographs, near and far, to the edge of the earth and to the places perhaps known only to you. Whether you're hauling around a view camera and a tripod or just pulling a mobile phone out of your back pocket, we want to see what you've captured and how you're telling your story.

There's a world out there to explore. Open your eyes to its landscapes, people, cultures - on your doorstep or 10,000 km away. Expand our horizons and send us your best portfolios!

Winners will receive $1,000 in cash awards, their winning portfolio or winning image(s) published in AAP Magazine #3, extensive press coverage and global recognition.

All winners will have their work published in the third printed issue of AAP Magazine, a free copy of the magazine and their portfolio showcased in the Winners Gallery of www.all-about-photo.com.

Somewhere... in Mesa Verde, Colorado was selected by Michael Kenna for an exhibition at A Smith Gallery

Dear tree photographers,

THANK YOU all for allowing me the privilege to judge your magnificent works. It has been a delightfully rich, satisfying and enormously difficult process. The axiom, I like what I like, hardly seems the most sophisticated criteria to use when judging. However, perhaps that is ultimately the way it should be. Despite the many traditional ways to evaluate images based on visual esthetics, technical achievements, conceptual rigor, narrative content, etc., I believe that we all see in our own special, unique ways, through the tinted lenses of personal genetics and singular life experiences. My apologies therefore go to the many photographers whose works have not been chosen. Please do not be disheartened, the competition was fearsome with 67 images selected out of 1,357 submitted by 209 photographers. Certainly my choices are highly subjective and would most certainly be different from another judge who might not like what I like. I congratulate those photographers whose works have been chosen and I am confident that the upcoming A Smith Gallery exhibition will be a huge success. Kind regards to all,

Michael Kenna
